About the Author
Carmen Pereira-Muro is Associate Professor of Spanish at Texas Tech University. Previously she served as Assistant Professor of Spanish Language and Literature at the University of Miami and Assistant Professor of Spanish Language and Literature at Albion College. Her literature and culture research interests include 18th- and 19th-century studies with a focus on questions of gender and nationalism, Spanish Realist Novel, Emilia Pardo Bazán, Transatlantic Studies, Galician Studies, and Poetry. Honored with the 2010 Texas Tech President's Excellence in Teaching Award, Dr. Pereira-Muro is a referee for LETRAS FEMENINAS and a referee and member of the editorial board for CÉFIRO. She earned her B.A. from the Universidad de Santiago de Compostela in Spain and her M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Review for Spanish Culture book

This book is very insightful and helpful for gaining an understanding of the culture and history of Spain. I like that it has important terms and concepts in bold. The brief overview at the beginning of each chapter is a useful guide for studying; also the review questions at the end are good to ensure that you've gathered the important ideas from the reading.

Compré este libro usado. No esperaba que tenga tantas notas escritas y manchas de resaltadores. Sin embargo, el contexto fue muy informativo, escrito profesionalmente pero con vocabulario que no es demasiado difícil de comprender.
Este libro, junto con las lecciones del professor que nos pidió leerlo (el libro), me ha quitado las actitudes negativas que he tenido en contra de España. Ahora llego a aceptar la cultura e historia de España como parte de la mía también como la cultura e historia latinoamericana (soy de descendencia salvadoreña).
Lo disfruté tanto que negué a venderlo de nuevo.
I purchased this book used. I did not expect there to be so many written notes and highlighting. Nevertheless, the context was very informative, professionally written yet with vocabulary that is not too difficult to comprehend.
This book, along with the lectures of the professor who asked us to read it (the book), took away from me all of the negative attitudes that I had against Spain. I have now come to embrace Hispanic culture and history as my own as well as Latin-American culture and history (I am of Salvadorean descent).
I loved this book so much, that I refused to sell it back.

Useful and interesting

This book is one of the better informative textbooks about Spain. However, as my instructor often pointed out, there are some points in the book where you can see some of the author's possible biases, though subtle. Still a useful and informative textbook.
