Nice little lighthearted how-to book!

Long, long ago I used to weave on a 4 harness floor loom. Over the past few years however every time I'd start to get ready to weave it was such a chore. I'm never happy where I put the loom, can't take it with me to group meetings and by the time I had it warped I found I'd want to start different project. I saw this book and the accompanying looms at a fair. The whole idea of a small portable loom that I could take with me and accomplish a project in just a few hours intrigued me. I knit sweaters and more often mittens, socks and hats. My thought was to make woven edgings for these garments. I do have weaving experience and many weaving books but I found this one refreshing. It's light hearted, quirpy,and so personal, but it does the job. As an instructional book it could use a few more diagrams. On pages 16 & 17 are instruction for warping. Pictures or diagrams to show the warping process and beginning weaving, esp how the sheds work, would be helpful. It is most valuable for the patterns. I found that I needed to have faith in the patterns. On page 58 are letters and numbers and I just couldn't figure how the warping pattern would work right...but it did! I made my friend a book mark with her name on it in about 1 1/2 hr from threading the loom to the finished project. I did learn that beginners may want to stick with a sturdy thread like crochet cotton at first, as I used a single ply wool which kept sticking together and started to fray coming through the holes in the loom. Have fun weaving!

I just finished my first tape! Its very crooked and uneven but I am pleasantly surprised. Some instructions were confusing and unclear to read but when I followed them as written everything worked out fine. I'd seen old tape looms at museums and it was fun to learn how to use them and think of uses for the tape.

Excellent Book

I recently purchased a box tape loom from Jonathan Skeidel, [...]. Britton's book helped me understand the loom and to make tapes in pretty designs explained with text, photos and diagrams. Also included are templates so I can make original patterns myself. This is great fun! The book explains not only how to make a beautiful tape, but also shows how to make warp floats and weave pick up patterns. I have never done this type of weaving before and am so pleased with my results.
