Life Changing--

Summarizing this book in a series of a few short sentances would do it a vast injustice. Instead let me simply remark that this book was not only profoundly illuminating and determinately enlightening, but it was life changing as well. It is not a heavy read in any sense and anyone curious about answering the question, "Why do we do what we do?" should pick it up. Highly engrossing and highly recommended.

Not worth it

I'm returning this book. The recipes consist of items like 'sexy girl, red lipstick, good light' but no tips on posing, eliciting a response, or anything good like that. There are a ton of typos & the same words are used over & over again (sometimes in the same sentence). Multiple typos

The book layout somehow makes everything seem less.

I'm starting to detect pattern with Amherst Media - strictly middle of road fare; at least if the author is any good. This one is actually a little better than some of their other offerings. The book layout somehow makes everything seem less. The print quality and physical constructions seems as good as any; so maybe the printer is better than the publisher.

The history of motor sport and especially Formula 1 is littered with cars that were designed with great enthusiasm but never quite made the grade. Some actually arrived on the grid while some others never left the workshop. This book is about cars that were built for the 3-litre formula that ended in 2005 but never made a mark for themselves or achieved victory. Frankly, I was surprised at the major players involved and honestly expected to read about cars built by unknowns. However, there were cars from Toyota, Honda, McLaren and Lola that are now sadly parked away gathering dust, overtaken by technology or simply found lacking. Other manufacturers include Dome from Japan, the French DAMs team and the Premier F1 car designed by English constructor Reynard.

The historical detail author Collins provides is very extensive and the photos used, both of the cars when new and today, make this an engaging book. Anyone who is genuinely interested in Formula 1 will want to read this work, as they know that the sport is made up of more than just the cars driven by those on the podium.

Formula One's Lost Cars.If you enjoy a tale, sometimes a mysterious one, about success and failure, this book is for you. Collins delves into the background of six aborted designs: DAMS GD-01, Dome F105, Lola, Honda RC2x, Toyota TF101, and McLaren MP4/18. It also talks about the Premier 1 Grand Prix prototype, the marketing exercise of forming a Grand Prix series linked with top soccer clubs, a concept that appears to have been resurrected. He concludes with a chapter on interim cars, test beds that were never made to race. It's a concise book of just over 100 pages, with many photos.I found it an interesting read that gave proper credit to those cars and efforts that at least deserved some mention within the history of Grand Prix design. It makes me wonder about any other unraced cars from different eras of F1. Maybe Sam Collins can fill us in on those someday.

Sam Collins has been involved with motor sport at all levels since he was a teenager, starting in Formula One on work experience with Williams in 1997, through to club racing. Currently he is Deputy Editor of the worlds leading journal of motor sport technology Racecar Engineering, a position that gives him unique access to the inner workings of international motor sport. Sam has always been more interested in cars than drivers and recently authored the best selling Autodrome, the lost race circuits of Europe. He lives in Beckenham, Kent, London.

This book may be the best written , most interesting book in the world but it is unreadable on a kindle . The text is tiny and cant be made larger - a terrible shame as it looks like a great subject

Cool idea and concept, but a bit disjointed

I was interested in reading this novella for a couple of reasons. First, I like a lot of the authors that helped write this and second, it was an interesting experiment in letting their readers pick the course of the story. So basically as a reader you got to vote on which way you wanted the story to go and the author that wrote the next chapter followed that plot direction.

This is a story about Munira, the half-human daughter of a fire djinn. She is a Retriever, someone who retrieves (aka steals) things. An evil wizard contacts Munira to have her Retrieve something for him from the underworld, when Munira refuses the wizard holds her father captive until she complies. What follows is a crazy adventure into the Underworld. After the story the first chapters from books by each author is included.

There were a lot of aspects I enjoyed in this short story. Munira as a half-fire djinn has some really cool powers and it was fun to read about that. Each of the authors writes a chapter and tries to play to there strong points as an author. I enjoyed the world and the concepts behind the story.

The things I liked about this story was that it was high action and creative. The e-book includes excepts from the authors' books at the end which was nice. It was a good way to get a feel for the authors' writing style to help you decide if you would like it or not.

My biggest problem with this was that each chapter felt a little disjointed because of the shifts in writing style. It was so apparent that it jarred you out of the story some. So, I had trouble staying engaged in the story. Each author definitely has their own style and focuses on different aspects of writing and it is very easy to see this, but also disruptive to the story.

Overall this was a neat experiment and results in an okay story. The ideas behind the story are solid but the jolt in style between chapters makes the story a bit disjointed and hard to stay engaged in. If you are trying to decide whether or not to read things from these authors then this should help you decide what writing styles work for you and what don't. For the price it's not a bad read.

I wanted more

It was a great idea- You take some of todays best authors and have them each write a chapter based of the precious authors chapters. Each author would twist the tale in their own special way. I had to read it, Stacia Kane one of my personal favs contributed. It was going along well, each author wrote a very interesting new twist to the main characters plot. Then it was just over ?!?!?! Yes, i know it is a novella, and short is what it is, but it could have been a really good novel. I would have loved to see each of these authors keep going writing another chapter or two when their turn came up.
All in all it was good but could of been great.

I like the idea of the collaborative story, but this one seemed disjointed as you moved from chapter to chapter. Too short. Seems it was more of a tease leading in to previews of the publisher's upcoming books.

Audacious effort to an ages old style of writing!

I like the concept and delivery. It's a modern day effort at age old positive knowledge sharing and effort. More writers should try it. I know that I do in my poetry writings on my "love" blog. 4 stars for being audacity, unique and positive in your message!
