Very expensive for what it is

At 44 dollars and listed as a hardback I was more than shocked when a book less than 200 pages arrived! Why on earth the publishers made this into a hardback is beyond me, for such a small book (without colour photos) it's a ridiculous format.

From the opening pages the writing struck me as appalling. Not only is the style annoying (it switches between trying to sound formal to writing in a somewhat immature, talky fashion) but there are grammatical errors everywhere (I'm not a stickler for grammar but the errors were really distracting!)- was this not even edited? What's worse is that the author apparently is a history lecturer at a university so one would expect something more insightful...

Whilst the author has researched Bardot's personal history very well, the writing and assessment of Bardot is terrible. The author also has no real understanding of cinema, which is obvious in his treatment of Godard's 'Contempt', and for someone writing about a film actress I think this is a real flaw.

All in all, a very disappointing book.

A Sad Mistating of the Truth

I always hesitate to criticize a fellow author, and I do so now with some regret, but Singer's biography of Bardot completely mis-states my interaction with her. I did not simply show up one day at La Madrague with a rose. What's more, neither Mijanou nor Bernard d'Ormale... and certainly not me... twisted her arm to write the introduction of my book, Bardot - Two Lives. She did it on her own. She did it because she wanted to. Because we'd forged a friendship. Because she trusted me. And, to set the record straight, while friendships with Brigitte are always difficult, I have never violated her trust. I do not know where he got his information. If he'd asked me, I would have told him. But he failed to check with a primary source and, while I wish Singer well, he got this, and other parts of her story, very wrong. Alas.

Brigitte Bardot was a movie star I idolized as a young woman who showed me what being sexy looked like at least on the big screen. I have followed her life because she never lost her visibility, and I was fascinated by how she eventually parlayed her sex kitten professional life into the lover and protector of animals. She was so beautiful and labeled as a "sex symbol" that her life could have been simply a story of lost youthful beauty. That's the fascination with this woman. This book addresses many of my questions and embellishes her persona as a full woman who was able to channel her love of animals with such great passion that she literally maintained her stunning persona as a unique woman of another time. I liked it.

Great Resource For New Sellers!

As someone who has long been interested in selling on Amazon, I’ve been looking for a way to find products that were unique and of good quality, but at a cost that would allow me to make a decent profit. While Alibaba certainly looked appealing and offered plenty of merchandise that seemed to fit the bill, I’d heard so many horror stories about people getting ripped off that I’d just about written off doing business through their marketplace. I am glad I bought the book

I am glad I bought the book, here is what I found both postive and negative:

I am currently dropshipping on Ebay and this book helped me a lot by showing me a website that tells you whats currently "hot", before I just search for a product on ebay and just look at the watch or sold count, but this website just blew my mind, I have seen products with like up to 100 people watching, but when I tried this website I saw like up to 15,000 people watching a product on ebay, I am trying to find hot item on ebay that is cheaper on other places, and I know that this book alone with that website only helped me a lot the $5 are worth it.

Cons: I am a dropshipper I do not touch physical products, but the wholesale approach was mentioned lacking the details about how to handle a wholesale purchase, where to store it, how to package, should I just ship all to Amazon warehouse, etc

Ariel (Laura and Alvin Siegal College of Judaic Studies) offers a helpful, readable introduction to the complex, arcane world of kabbalah. Most importantly, the book is an accurate description of its subject (not always true for books on Jewish mysticism). Following a useful review of scholarly views on the nature of mysticism, Ariel presents a brief history of Jewish mysticism from the 6th century BCE and the prophecy of Ezekiel following the destruction of the First Temple in Jerusalem, to the composition and publication of the most famous work of kabbalah, the Zohar, at the end of the 13th century. Two chapters review the esoteric doctrines of the Zohar, especially the Sefiroth, God's emanated attributes; included is a discussion of the Shekinah, the feminine aspect of the divine. Four additional chapters take up other central topics, such as the meaning of Torah according to the kabbalists, the destiny of one's soul, the mystical meaning of Jewish ritual obligations (mitzvot), the practice of meditation, and the influence of kabbalah in Hasidism. About the Author

Bob Bowers is CEO of Soliant Consulting, a 50-person firm that specializes in custom

database and web application development. He is a recipient of the FileMaker Excellence

Award and has co-authored seven books on FileMaker Pro development. In 2008 he was

inducted into the Chicago Area Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame. After graduating summa

cum laude in Music and English from Wabash College, Bob earned a master’s degree in

Musicology from the University of Chicago. Bob is also a proud dad of two young children,

an avid banjo player, and an accomplished woodworker.

 

Dawn Heady, a Senior Technical Project Lead for Soliant Consulting, has 20-plus years of

FileMaker solution architecting experience during which time she’s also been a successful

business owner, served as a CIO in the credit restoration industry, and as Vice President of

a company specializing in FileMaker plug-ins. She is an authorized FileMaker Training

Series instructor, a regular speaker at the annual FileMaker Developer Conference and

FileMaker 8 Functions and Scripts Desk Reference, and FileMaker 9 Developer Reference. He is

also the producer for Grem Legends, an arcade game on the iOS App Store, and has written

a technical brief on FileMaker Go. He is an authorized FileMaker Training Series

instructor and a regular speaker at the FileMaker Developer Conference. In 2006 he was

awarded the FileMaker Excellence Award “for developing outstanding technical and training

resources for FileMaker.” Scott lives in the California Bay Area, where his penchant for

gardening can be indulged year round.

Essential for any FileMaker developer

This reference is full of useful information organized in a way that it is easy to find and use. Believe it or not, this volume is better than the previous developer reference for FM version 9. This book is essential for any serious FileMaker developer. My only regret is that the binding doesn't allow the book to lay flat on a desk. It really takes two hands to thumb through the pages. I just wish it could lay flat on the desk and allow my hands to do FM development on the keyboard.

Excellent

I am an intermediate developer. That means I can 'get the job done' but not as efficiently if I knew a few 'tips and tricks'. This book is fantastic. It presents some pretty basic stuff, (like what is a layout) but also goes into intermediate topics like creating multi table relationships between table occurrences.

This book is 'new best friend' when I need a FMaker reference.

Better than FM's built-in Help. It won't teach you HOW to make FM programs, but it will give you that detailed knowledge about particulars.

GREAT BOOK! MUST READ!

This book was excellent, and I would highly recommend it! It is very inspirational and well-written. As an American reading this book I was reminded how easy opportunities are to come by in America compared with how one must fight to find opportunity in a place as ambitious and competing as India, and to see Mr. Robert rise to the top of such a competitive place is truly inspiring and admirable. It also gives tips for success in the corporate world from someone who is at the top of his game. His story will make you laugh a lot and cry and all along the way inspire you to push yourself to your ultimate, God-given potential.
